How do I clean my motorbike helmet without scratching it?

• Remove coarse dust: If the helmet is very dusty or has dried mud, first shake it or run it under a light stream of water to remove coarse abrasive particles. (In general, any cloth used on a dusty surface could cause micro-scratches if there is sand; better to prevent this by rinsing the helmet quickly).

How to remove insects and gnats from the car bonnet?

Removing crushed and dried-up gnats and insects on the bonnet may seem like a daunting task, but with PoliBrill-Q it becomes much easier. Here is a step-by-step method to remove insects & gnats from the car bonnet effectively, without scratching the paintwork:

1. Prepare the cloth and the surface: Start by roughly rinsing the bonnet with water (a quick wipe with a hose or spray bottle) to soften the dirt and let the dust slide off. Then take your PoliBrill-Q and wet it with clean water or water and car shampoo. Squeeze it lightly: it should remain moist but not excessively dripping.

2. Wipe insects: Place the damp cloth on the area of the bonnet with many crushed insects. Do not rub hard right away. Instead, let the water from the cloth moisten and soften the insect remains for a few seconds. Then start moving the cloth back and forth or in very wide and light circular motions, covering the entire area. How to remove tar from car bodywork?

Tar stains on the bodywork are a particularly stubborn case of dirt. Tar (or road bitumen) appears as small black drops or splashes, often along the lower parts of the car or behind the wheels, and adheres tenaciously to the paintwork. It can happen after driving on newly paved roads or hitting potholes with fresh bitumen. Removing tar with a simple cloth and water is unfortunately not effective, even PoliBrill-Q alone would have difficulty because tar is water-repellent and very adherent. However, PoliBrill-Q can still be useful in combination with a specific product.

Here is how to proceed to safely remove tar from the bodywork:

• Use a specific product to dissolve tar: Get a product, spray or brush, specially formulated to dissolve tar, bitumen, glue residues and the like. Different brands can be found in car accessory or hardware shops. Although we do not sell this type of product directly, it is an advisable purchase if you often find yourself with tar stains on your car. Of course, there are specific professional products such as Deca Flash (Ma-Fra), alternatively there are less professional products such as Flash (NCH), or more homemade products such as a common spray lubricant like WD-40, or simply Diesel fuel.
  In any case, spray or brush the product generously onto the tar stain, covering the contaminated area well. Wait the time indicated in the instructions (usually a few minutes) for the solvent to soften and dissolve the tar.

• Remove the residue with PoliBrill-Q: After allowing the dissolving spray to work, the tar will start to dissolve (turn brown and more fluid). Now take your clean, moistened PoliBrill-Q cloth and use it to dab and wipe the area. There's no need to rub hard: generally the tar will come off because the solvent has detached it from the paint. PoliBrill-Q helps you to pick up and gently remove all dissolved tar residues from the bodywork, thanks to its mechanical strength and cleaning power. If the stain was very large, you may have to repeat the operation a second time by applying a little more product and using a clean side of the cloth. Continue until the bodywork is clean.

• Wash the cloth well after use: Tar is an oily, sticky substance. After removing it, you will notice that dark stains or grease may remain on the PoliBrill-Q cloth. It is essential to wash the cloth immediately (see next section on how to wash it) to remove all traces of tar from its fibres. If you leave it dry without washing it, the hardened tar could ruin the cloth, reduce its cleaning effectiveness or even render it unusable. So, as soon as you have finished, rinse the PoliBrill-Q with very hot water and degreasing soap; possibly do a separate machine wash to remove the tar oil completely. The good news is that, thanks to its robustness, the cloth withstands this type of operation well and does not get damaged, so you can continue to use it for a long time even after removing difficult stains such as tar (just take care to wash it thoroughly). With the right combination of tar remover and PoliBrill-Q, even those annoying black dots on the bodywork will become a bad memory.

How should PoliBrill-Q be washed after use?

An important part of ensuring the long life and performance of your PoliBrill-Q is to clean it properly after each use. Fortunately, the maintenance of this cloth is simple: as it is made of high-quality polypropylene synthetic fibre, it can be washed and reused many times while maintaining its effectiveness. Here are some tips on how to wash the PoliBrill-Q cloth:

• Machine washable (recommended): You can safely machine wash PoliBrill-Q. A cycle up to a temperature of 60°C using a normal laundry detergent is recommended. A temperature of 40-60°C is ideal to remove dirt and bacteria accumulated in the cloth without damaging the fibres. Avoid temperatures higher than 60°C, as this could shorten the life of the cloth (even if the material is durable, excessive heat could deform the synthetic fibres in the long run). Make sure you use normal amounts of detergent, as you would for delicate items, DO NOT USE SOFTENERS !!!

• By hand or pre-treatment: If you are in a hurry or have no washing machine, you can also wash PoliBrill-Q by hand in lukewarm water. Soak it in a bucket or sink with warm water (up to ~50-60°C) and a little dishwashing detergent or neutral degreasing soap. Let it soak for a few minutes, then rub it lightly between your hands, especially in places where you see stains (e.g. black dirt or insect residue). Rinse it thoroughly until the water comes out clean. You will notice that the cloth will be as good as new, with no visible traces of dirt.

• Stain removal and sanitisation: If the cloth is very dirty (e.g. after removing tar or grease) or you want to sanitise it thoroughly, you can add a little mild bleach during washing. We recommend using a drop of bleach together with the detergent to completely sanitise the cloth. For example, you can add half a cup of bleach in the washing machine when washing PoliBrill-Q. Bleach helps to remove stubborn organic stains and ensure deep cleaning of the fibres. Alternatively, white vinegar during the final rinse is also good: vinegar removes any detergent residue and neutralises odours, leaving the cloth fresh.

• Caution with fabric softener and dryer: Do not use fabric softener on PoliBrill-Q. Fabric softeners tend to leave a waxy coating on the fibres of cleaning cloths, reducing their ability to absorb dirt. PoliBrill-Q is already soft by itself and does not need softeners (it will remain soft even after washing). As far as drying is concerned, it is best to air-dry the cloth. Just lay it out after washing and in a few hours it will be dry and ready to use. If possible, avoid the tumble dryer at high temperatures, as the intense heat may slightly deform the polypropylene fibres; if you really must use the tumble dryer, set a low temperature or the programme for delicate synthetics.

• Check the cloth before next use: After washing, inspect your PoliBrill-Q. You will be pleased to note that it does not fray or lose its shape: this cloth is designed to last and keeps its cleaning properties intact even after many washes. If you should still see some residual stains (e.g. grease marks), consider a repeat wash or soak with warm soapy water.
